Momence Police Honored

Lt. Kenneth Strunk, left, and Chief Brian Brucato are shown above with the awards that were given to them at the most recent Momence City Council meeting. The awards were given for being in the right place at the right time or the right place at the wrong time, however you look at it, these two showed bravery beyond expectations when they helped subdue and capture the shooter at the Kankakee County Courthouse on the morning of August 26.

These two Momence Officers, Lt. Kenneth Strunk and Momence Police Chief Brian Brucato, were at the Kankakee County Courthouse on August 26 to get some search warrants signed by a judge. While they were leaving the courthouse, two men walking behind them soon became shooting victims.

Their quick response in the next few minutes, led to the surrender and arrest of one of the shooters.

Mayor Chuck Steele showered his officers with high praise during the council meeting on Tuesday night. He also had a commemorative plaque created to honor their bravery.  The plaque reads: “The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding go out to meet it.”
