Heritage Day postponed to September 26, 20202019 picture collage 2
After polling the site managers, museum and location directors, Heritage Day Committee members and Momence Heritage Foundation Board, it was decided to postpone rather than cancel Heritage Days. Originally scheduled for the weekend of June 13, the festival was postponed due to Coronavirus and the Governor’s Executive order extending through May 30.
“We don’t have the size and scope of our City’s premiere festival, Glad Fest, so we felt this smaller city festival could go on as planned, but just postponed” said Beth Crouch, one of the festival’s organizers. “We still hope to have it on Friday and Saturday this year, which is new. Our main purpose is education, so we really want to involve the school kids and encourage field trips for the Friday events,” Crouch said.
One way the festival hopes to keep interest going over the summer is to introduce educational components on the website, Facebook page and in the paper. “We hope to have a new video, information piece, or educational resource up each week or every other week during the summer to keep kids and families engaged in history, culture, tradition and everything Momence! We already have a number of groups and individuals that keep history alive here, and they all do amazing work! So we just want to add to that with perhaps some interesting challenges for kids and families to become even more engaged” Crouch further added. “Our entire group of volunteers, site managers, board and committee are all totally committed to making it work, and we are so hopeful the Community of Momence will get behind us and participate over the summer and at the Festival in September.” For more information, the website is updated continually, www.momenceheritageday.org.
